Village Head Loses Five Children to Sokoto Boat Mishap

The village head of Gidan Magana, Mallam Muhammadu Auwal, has lost five of his children in the mishap that happened in the Shagari River, Sokoto State on Wednesday.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday expressed grief over Wednesday death of 29 persons from boat mishap in Sokoto State among who were the children of the Village Head.
About 29 passengers reportedly died in Shagari River at Gidan Magana in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
A statement from the office of the President said the president extended condolences to families who lost loved ones in the devastating incident.
It said that President Buhari has directed Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to increase ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of riverine travel in the country.
The President, who also commiserated with the government and people of Sokoto State, prays for the repose of the souls of the departed and divine comfort to the grieving families.
