The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the arrest of crossdresser, Idris Okuneye- popularly known as Bobrisky, following his alleged attempt to flee Nigeria to Benin Republic.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the service’s spokesperson, Kenneth Udo.
According to the statement shared on its official X handle, the Immigration disclosed that Bobrisky was intercepted at the Seme Border, foiling his attempt to exit the country.
The service claimed to have intercepted the crossdresser on the basis of his status as a person of interest in regards to his ongoing bribery saga.
NIS maintained that he will be handed over to the appropriate authority while affirming its commitment to safeguarding the country’s border.
The statement read in part; “In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) intercepted Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju otherwise known as Bobrisky at the Seme Border over an attempt to Exit the Country.
“The Service wishes to inform the public that OKUNEYE IDRIS is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern.
“He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate Authorities for further action.
“The Service assures the public that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the Country’s Borders.”
Bobrisky’s attempt to flee Nigeria is coming amid his ongoing bribery scandal and controversies surrounding his jail term which has brought the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under fire and public scrutiny.
Hour after his arrest, NPO Reports the release of the findings made by the Investigative Panel set up by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The panel’s report confirmed that he spent his jail term in prison but admitted he was given undue preferential treatment.
