Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ordered raid on beggars across the capital city.
Lamenting over the rise in number of the beggars across the city, Wike made the order while speaking at the flag-off ceremony of Judges quarters’ construction project yesterday.
Wike urged relatives of the beggars off the street as he announced that the raid will commence next week.
He claimed that the beggars are defacing the capital city while alleging some of them are criminals in disguise as he addressed the state of insecurity in Abuja.
“In terms of security, let me say it clearly now that we have declared war. Abuja is turning to beggar city.
“If you know you have a sister or brother who is a beggar on the road, please from next we will carry them. We will take them out.
“It is embarrassing that people will come in, the first thing they see are those beggars on the road.
“Sometimes too, they may not be beggars. They may be criminals pretending to be beggars. We will not allow that.
“I have given you a public holiday from now till Sunday. From Monday, we will pack them out.
“Let us know that we have a city that we can call a city. It is very embarrassing.
“We are fighting insecurity and people will carry plate as if they are. They may be informants.” Wike said.
