The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 97% of its polling units across Ondo state were opened by 8:30am.
INEC disclosed this in a post on its official X handle on Saturday.
As contained in the post backed up with tabular illustration, the electoral body confirmed the opening of 3,823 out of the 3,933 polling units by 8:30am ahead state’s governorship election.
“Of the 3,933 Polling Units (PUs) across the 203 Wards in the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Ondo State, 3,823 (97 percent) opened by 8.30am.
“The remaining 110 PUs opened between 8.31am and 10am.” INEC posted
While the early arrival of the INEC officials gained commendation from governorship candidates, including the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, there were, however, complaints from voters over delay in accreditation and voting due to technical glitches on the Bi-Modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) Machines in some of the polling units.
Spearheading the aggrieved voters was the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Agboola Ajayi, who accused INEC of deliberate disenfranchisement of voters due to the BVAS failure.
