Osun State Park Management System (OSTMS) Chairman, Nurudeen Iyanda , was reportedly shot while in police custody following arrest over alleged possession of arms.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by OSTMS State Secretary, Mukaila Popoola.
According to the statement, Iyanda was detained over domestic-related issues and subsequently shot under unclear circumstances.
The union, however, urged its members to remain calm and refrain from any retaliatory actions.
“Our chairman was shot in police custody under circumstances that call for thorough investigations,
“We call on our members not to take laws into their hands. We must maintain peace across the parks while we take the matter up with the appropriate authorities,” the statement read.
Alowonle was appointed OPMS Chairman by the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke.
According to reports, news of his arrest was shared on X by Prince Aderemi, an aide to the former governor of Osun State and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola.
Aderemi said Alowonle is “accused of armed robbery, kidnapping, multiple murders,” adding that he had “earlier fired gunshots on police before he was apprehended.”
His arrest was also confirmed by the second spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, ASP Giwa Alade Emmanuel.
“According to what I know about the case, it was reported at the Oja Oba division and the CP directed that it should be transferred to the anti-kidnapping squad for discreet investigation. The case is still under investigation.” Giwa reportedly said.
He added that Alowonle and others were intercepted and arrested on Sunday along Ring Road in Osun after receiving credible information about their planned attack on a complainant.
