The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams on Tuesday renewed his call for the restructuring of the country.
Speaking as a guest of honour at the four lecture series of Freedom Online in Lagos, Adams said that it is only when the country is restructured that the problems facing the country could be resolved.
“Problems facing the country needed to be solved before we talk of the 2023 general elections.
“All what Nigeria needs at this critical period is restructuring.”
Gani said when most of the political establishments, governors, former heads of state are talking about restructuring, they always like to discuss about Statism.
He said this would generate more challenges than the present condition of this country
“Most of our establishments, governors, former heads of state always relating restructuring to statism.
“In my own position, I believe statism will be worse than the situation we are now as a country. What we are having currently is completely unitary system of government and not federalism.
“If we keep relating restructuring to statism, it would definitely amount to having 36 Emperors as Governors of our states,’ Adam said
The Aare Onakakanfo advised Nigerians to take a look back from where the journey started and where the country is headed,
He said, “When children fall, they always look at the front but when elderly people fall, they look at the back to see the cause of the fall.”
He urged Nigerians to always think in the direction of regionalism rather than thinking of statism.
