The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), on Wednesday, intensified its campaign effort, storming the wards in Aba South Local Government Area (LGA) to unveil its Councillorship Candidates for the November 2 Local Government Elections.
According to reports that the party drove round the 12 wards in the commercial town, sharing campaign fliers and handbills, soliciting for massive support and votes from the electorate.
The party Chairmanship Candidate for the LGA, Mr Obialo Anyanwu, who unveiled the Councillorship Candidate for Mosque Ward 10, Mr Chiemezie Kanu, appealed to the electorate to vote for ZLP.
Anyanwu hailed the party faithful and residents for trooping out to “show solidarity with the party and love to Gov. Alex Otti for providing good governance to them.
“We are here today to unveil the party councillorship candidate for Mosque Ward 10 and his name is Chiemezie Kanu.
“We are giving him the party flag as our flag bearer for the councillorship race.
In a speech, Kanu thanked the party leaders and faithful for being solidly behind him to contest the election on the party’s platform.
“I promised that integrity, consolidation, inclusivity and quality representation will be my watchword, if am elected.
“We are going to come out in full capacity to vote and defend our votes for the party and the state so that the good story in Abia will continue,” he said.
The LG party’s Financial Secretary and leader of the stakeholders in the ward, Everistus Ikedioranma, said that he was optimistic about the party’s victory at the poll.
“I am sure we are going to win because ZLP is a popular party in Aba and as long as the city is concerned, this party is grounded and active in all the LGAs.
“ZLP is a party to beat. Besides, we have capable candidates, who know Aba in and out and what the people need,” Ikedioranma said.
The ongoing crisis within the ruling Labour Party saw the party divided into two factions- Alex Otti and Julius Abure.
This placed ZLP on advantage ahead of the LG Polls as several supporters and chairmanship aspirants under Otti-led LP faction have crossed to the ZLP ahead of the LG elections.
