A United States- based Nigerian Don, Prof. Omolade Adunbi, has described the demise of Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, as a great loss to Nigeria.
In tribute to the late Afenifere leader, Adunbi, a Professor of Anthropology and Director of the African Studies Centre at the University of Michigan, lauded the late elder statesman’s struggle for democracy and human rights.
He also described Adebanjo as a shining example for many Nigerian youths, adding that he will be sorely missed.
Prof. Adunbi further extended his condolences to Pa Adebanjo’s family, Nigerians, as well as pro democracy movement.
“Wow! This is a great loss to Nigeria, the Yorubas and freedom lovers across the world. For several decades, he remained a colossal presence in the struggle for democracy and human rights.
“He devoted his entire life to the struggle for a better society and he was an avid advocate for a federal system that works for the people and not the few.
“He was a shining example for many youths across the country. He will be sorely miss. Rest In Power, Chief Adebanji.
“My condolences to his family, Nigerians and the pro democracy movement.” The University Don wrote.
NPO reported that Pa passed away on Friday at the age of 96.
He was announced dead at his Lekki residence in Lagos.
His death has attracted tributes across the nation as political leaders and renowned institutions mourned Pa. Adebanjo’s demise.
