Cameroon has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as they edged past South Africa in 2–1 victory on Sunday in Rabat.
The Indomitable Lions were forced to initially withstand the Bafana Bafana’s pressure as South Africa dominated the opening 30 minutes, pressing aggressively and creating chances, but Cameroon goalkeeper Devis Epassy kept the Indomitable Lions in the contest.
Despite the pressure, Cameroon broke the deadlock with a 34th minute clinical strike.
This shifted momentum in Cameroon’s favour after sustained South African dominance.
The Indomitable Lions would double their lead shortly after, with Christian Kofane heading home in the 47th minute to compound South Africa’s woes.
Bafana Bafana fought back late through Evidence Makgopa’s 87th-minute goal, but Cameroon defended resolutely to seal victory.
Cameroon will face hosts Morocco in the quarterfinals on Friday at the Stade Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
