Few hours after calling out Osun State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Umar, over the violence and killings reported in the state on Monday, Nigerian afrobeat musician, David Adeleke (Davido), has sued for peace and respect for the rule of law.
The musician and nephew to Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke, took to his X handle to urge security agencies, including the Police Commissioner, to foster peace in the state while honouring the dead and injured victims of the mayhem.
The singer had, in the wake of the crisis which saw supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) clashed with the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) supporters over a court ruling which allegedly reinstated APC local government chairmen and councillors sacked in 2022, slammed the CP Mohammed.
He had charged him to obey the rule of law while calling him a disgrace to his children.
“Mr commissioner respect the rule of law!!! You are not madder or crazier than us !! Make we all kuku mad !! MEN MOUNT WALAI TO KRF!!! I will post u everyday everywhere Mr man !!! Try me fucker.
“Mr Umar abba osun state commissioner u are a disgrace to ur children !! !!! Game on FUCKER !!!! All of us go mad together !! Werey!!!” Davido has posted.
As against the post, the singer would later admit to have wrongly accused the Police Commissioner.
He said he has gotten clearer understanding of the incident and the effort of the Police Command in curtailing the crisis.
Davido stressed that the Police Commissioner deserved commendation for his efforts which was initially underappreciated by him.
“Further review of political development in Osun state revealed more facts which include several genuine efforts of the state security agencies including the state Commissioner of Police.
“The bloodshed of today infuriated me so much that I heaped all the blame on the Commissioner of Police.
“I now see that the issue is more than that of the Commissioner of Police or other security chiefs. The needless killings of today angered me so deeply that I thought such should have been nipped in the bud. Yet, I can see that the security agencies led by the Commissioner of Police put in their best and deserve commendation.
“In memories of the innocent souls lost, human emotions overwhelmed me and many of my friends around.
“We did not know the Commissioner of Police had been having sleepless nights alongside other commanders.
“At this point, the contributions of the police commissioner were not fully appreciated by me. This is a grave oversight and I want to declare that his support for rule of law and protection of peace in Osun state is hereby acknowledged and appreciated.
“We must also work to ensure that the local government election scheduled for Saturday February 22nd is held peacefully. Achieving this will be a crowning glory not just for politicians but for security chiefs including the Osun state Commissioner of Police.
“I wish the Commissioner of Police and other security commanders the best of luck as they address challenges of the moment.” Davido wrote.
