Calls for Help by Nigerians
- Safiu Kehinde
The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Board of Management Chairman, Dayo Israel, has called for Nigerians intervention over the poor state of the nation’s medical centres.
Israel made the call following an unscheduled midnight visit to an FMC on Tuesday.
Recounting his ordeal in a post on his X handle, the Chairman disclosed the absence of cosmetics at the accident and emergency surgical wards.
The visit, which was captured in a video attached to the post, also showed people sleeping on bare floor around the hospital premises.
Also captured was alongside the clustered interior of the hospital was a poorly maintained toilet.
While commending interventions of the legislatures on the Infrastructural development of the hospitals over the years, Israel revealed plan to engage stakeholders, both in public and private sectors on behalf of the FMC.
He, however, sought Nigerians collaboration as he stressed that the government cannot do it alone.
“1am this morning I paid an unscheduled visit to our Medical Center, disguised, to assess for myself, the true state of the facility especially the A and E/ surgical Wards; without any cosmetic. Whew.
“While a lot has been achieved in the institution, a lot of work is really needed to turn the center to a model health institution. We are grateful to all the legislators who have donated additional infrastructure to us; but we need a total overhaul of our A & E/ward.
“The next phase of my external engagement on behalf of the FMC includes meeting with stakeholders from our ministerial leaders to the private sector who can support and partner with us.
“The government cannot do it alone. May I call on well meaning Nigerians to Please come and adopt some of our buildings and renovate. Come to Macedonia and help us.” Israel wrote.
