A Nigerian fashion entrepreneur, Onyema Evelyn, has cried out over alleged breach of contract by a housing agent after relocating her business to Lagos.
Narrating her ordeal in a post shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, Onyema recounted how she had relocated her fashion business from Asaba, Delta state capital, to Lagos where she met with the housing agent simply identified as Mr. Peter.
She disclosed that the paid about N5 million total package for the house while explaining to the agent her purpose of renting the house.
Onyema told Mr. Peter that the house will be used for production which the agent agreed on.
“Lagos people don do me welcome to Lagos. Before I paid for this particular house that I got, my manager in Lagos here that was in charge of the whole thing, when we were looking for this house, I kept telling the person, this house is going to be used for production. It is going to be used for in-house production. Customers will not have access as it will be used for indoor product.
“When we finally saw this particular four-bedroom duplex, I kept explaining that Sir hope my person told you what we are using this house for.
“He said yes that he has explained. I told him I make clothes. This is what I do. I’m going to be staying there with my staff.
“They charged for the house. The rent is about N3.8 million or so. The total package we paid was about N5 million. When I was about to make payment, I asked the man again that are you sure you are very aware of what I’m using this house to do? He said yes. I said the reason why I’m sounding this
“I said the reason why I’m sounding this is that I do not want to enter a compound and then, because I know when I was using a flat at Asaba, I still made it clear that I don’t want anybody to embarrass me. I’m okay with if you want to charge because we are using it for this, charge for it with your full chest.
“When I was in Asaba, I had two different factories that I was using, like two different compounds and they were very much aware, and I was paying extra fee because of what I’m using it to do. So, I explained to this people, and they agreed.” She said.
Onyema disclosed that the landlord issued them evacuation notice shortly after moving into the apartment as he claimed he was never informed about what she planned to do in the house.
“Now we have paid money, packed into the house. Lagos people now don show us shege. The landlord sent his manager to come and check some people that packed in. They came that day and video the whole thing and told the landlord.
“All of a sudden, the landlord was like I don’t think they can be sewing in this place. This is not what I was planning for. They kept posting us around. Now, they are asking us to evacuate the compound.
“The landlord said he was not aware of anything like that. He said he was not even told at all that having been he was told; he wouldn’t have allowed them to pay any money” She said.
