Few days after celebrating his son for bagging Law Masters Degree at a University located in the United Kingdom, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has become the latest victim of social media never forgets as Nigerians pulled out video where he queried studying abroad.
Wike, as seen in the old interview on Channels TV Sunrise Daily programme recorded during his tenure as Rivers state governor, had discouraged the act of students travelling abroad to study courses available in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
He highlighted programmes that does not need to be studied abroad as there are available at Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The programmes mentioned by Wike include English, Economics, and Law.
“Some of these courses, you don’t need to send them abroad. Why do I have to send somebody who want to study English overseas? Why do I have to send somebody who wants to study Economics overseas? Why do I have to send someone who wants to study law overseas when you know that we have very good faculties in this areas.” Wike said.
The FCT Minister further stated that travelling abroad to study programmes like Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, or IT is justifiable.
“We thought that if I’m sending you overseas, it will be on peculiar and very clear areas that we lack and want our people to go and study, maybe in some areas of engineering, medicine, agriculture, and ICT.” Wike had added.
