A Think-tank organisation, The Agora Policy, is set for the publication of it’s second report titled ‘Understanding and Tackling Insecurity in Nigeria.’
Agora Policy is a Nigerian think tank and non-profit committed to finding practical solutions to urgent national challenges.
It is headed by a former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, NEITI, Waziri Adio.
It conducts policy research, facilitates frank and purposeful dialogues, and build capacity for governance, policy and advocacy.
The platform is founded to address three critical gaps in Nigeria’s development namely; Dearth of actionable research on pressing policy challenges; Limited attempt at building national consensus on policy options; Low capacity for policy design, implementation and advocacy.
According to the hint dropped on its twitter handle, the new publication would basically look into the major factors contributing to the insecurity in the country.
The publication would also proffer possible solutions to the menace which has ravaged the country and reduced the country’s security of lives and properties to the lowest rank.
“Publication Alert: the second issue of The Agora Policy Report is set for release. Titled ‘Understanding and Tackling Insecurity in Nigeria’, it looks at the key types, manifestations and drivers of insecurity in the country and proffers solutions,” the tweet reads
Insecurity has been at the centre of debates in the country with unending cases of killings, kidnapping, rituals, inter-ethnic strives, religious violence among others.
The media is awash with reports of many of these in their daily reportage.
In March this year terrorist attacked an Abuja bounded train and killed about eight passengers while abducting more than 150 of them.
Many had bought their freedom paying heavy ransoms.
Largely, the government has been accused of plating no roles in securing freedom for those who were released.
Just last week, foreign missions in Nigeria had alerted of an impending terrorists attacks. The alert has forced many businesses to close down while many schools were closed.
The statement read “There is an elevated risk of terror attacks in Nigeria, specifically in Abuja. Targets may include but are not limited to, government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities, and international organizations.
“The U.S. Embassy will offer reduced services until further notice. Actions to Take: Avoid all non-essential travel or movement. Stay alert. Avoid crowds.
“Review your security plans and keep your cell phone charged in case of emergency. Carry proper identification.”
