Says He Doesn’t Care About Zoning
- Safiu Kehinde
Chairman of Air Peace Mr. Allen Onyema on Thursday advised Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, not to stop at the level of governorship but aim higher to become the President of Nigeria.
The Air Peace boss stated this at the commissioning of five strategic networks of roads – Oba Dosumu Street, Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa Crescent, Sobo Arobiodu and Sasegbon Streets – measuring 6.134 km, in Ikeja.
While lauding President Bola Tinubu for picking right successors in governance of Lagos state, Onyema urged Sanwo-Olu not to border going into business but stay on in politics to get to the highest position in the country.
“I’m beginning to have a different idea entirely. I think I will have to align with what our Kabiyesi had said earlier that if there had been third term, he should have gone for a third term.
“But there is a third term better than being a governor. You see, I have to thank Mr. President.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has always been known for picking the round pegs for round holes, square pegs for square holes. And in Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the President once again picked a successor to his dreams that he had as far back as 1999 to transform Lagos.
“I see myself as a Lagosian. I’m very proud of this state. I’m very proud of what Mr. President has achieved both in this state- he is a pace setter. He has set a pace for others to follow. With the kind of people he has been nominating and sponsoring for this state. Each and every one of them outshine the other when they come in.
“So Babajide Sanwo-Olu has even outshined the President of the one he did in 1999.” Onyema said.
He stressed further that he does not care about zoning or whether the president, ministers and other appointees come from only one village in Nigeria as long as they can deliver good governance.
“One thing I have to say that Allen Onyema is calling on you not to go into business but stay in politics. Because we need you someday at that level at the centre.
“I don’t care, I don’t give a damn if the President, or the Ministers, or the Commissioners, or the Heads of Agencies come from one village as long as we get good governance. I don’t even care about zoning. So, remain in politics,” the Air Peace boss stated.
While decrying the dearth of good leaders in politics, Onyema held that Nigeria has found a new leader in Sanwo-Olu.
“The problem we have in Nigeria is that the good ones are shied away from politics, leaving politics for charlatans.
“In Babajide Sanwo-Olu, we have found a new Nigerian leader. Keep it up. God will see you to the next level. You’ve shown what you can do as a leader in Lagos. He is all accommodating, he has a listening ear and wills people together,
“You have no finished playing your part. When you say you’ve played your part and leave politics, you might not like what you will see the next time.” he added.
