The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, has ordered immediate suspension of the local airline’s flight operations over nationwide strike by staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
NPO Reported that the agency’s workers and members of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) had yesterday staged peaceful demonstrations at various agency locations, including airports.
The agency had decried the poor welfarism and financial challenges faced by the workers.
While noting that all foreign airlines have suspended operations over the strike, AUPCTRE’s Secretary, Paul Ogohi, slammed local airlines over failure to halt operation in solidarity with the staff as observed by their foreign counterparts.
In reaction, Air Peace boss, Onyema, ordered immediate suspension of all operations of the airline.
As captured in a now viral video on social media, Onyema could be heard instructing a staff of the local airline on phone call to suspend for flights for safety reasons.
“If NiMet has not called of the strike, cancel every Air Peace now with immediate effect for leople’s lives and safety of our equipment, safety of our crew.” Onyema said.
