The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is set to sanction five airlines found guilty of increasing their airfares during the December 2025 festive season and the new year holidays.
This was made known in a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare.
According to Dare, the FCCPC had concluded its preliminary investigations with the commission’s boss, Dr. Tunji Bello, disclosing plan to sanction the erring airlines.
Bello reported disclosed this during the State House Meet the Press Session.
While a final report of the investigation is yet to be release, the airlines found wanting are, according to Dare, likely to be asked to refund excess to customers.
The statement read; “With its preliminary investigations concluded, the FCCPC is set to sanction about 5 airlines guilty of colluding to fix prices during the last Christmas/ New Year holidays.
“Dr. Tunji Bello, EVC of the FCCPC disclosed this today at the State House Meet the Press Session.
“These airlines may be asked to refund excess to the customers.
“Prices went up as far as 405k and 600k. A final report will be ready shortly.”
