The father of late aide to the Osun State Governor and chairman of the state’s chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, has revealed his son’s promise to sponsor him for Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca before his death.
NPO Reported that Ajagungbade was shot dead in Ile-Ife on Sunday 13th of September in a suspected clash over leadership of motor parks in the state.
He was buried the following day in accordance with traditional rites.
Speaking one week after his burial, the father of the late Osun NURTW chieftain recalled their time together and how he had promised to send him to Mecca.
The aggrieved man revealed this while receiving some Islamic clerics and other sympathisers at his residence on Tuesday.
He narrated how the late Ajagungbade had refused to go to Mecca as he insisted that his father must go the holy land before him.
‘Lekan was a good child. He told me he is yet to go to Mecca because of me.
‘The year he promised to take me to Mecca was when he was arrested.
‘We spent nine months over the issue. I was about reminding him of the promise again when this happened.
‘He said he can’t go to Mecca if I don’t go first.’ He said.
Meanwhile, no arrest has been made by the police in respect to the murder of the aide to Governor Adeleke despite accused fingers being pointed to fellow Osun NURTW chieftain, Nurudeen Alowonle, who was alleged to have led the armed hoodlums to the Mayfair Park where Ajagungbade was killed.
