The newly elected President of the senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on his colleagues to ensure they back President Bola Tinubu on the issues relating to the fuel subsidy removal. Akpabio while delivering his inaugural address said if Tinubu requires legislative backing over the fuel subsidy removal, the senators must not hesitate to give the backing.
The Senate President said it has become glaring that Nigeria was subsidising fuel used in neighbouring countries while Nigerians paid for the supplies. He said if it is true that the figure of 69 million barrels of fuel per day consumed in Nigeria has reduced to less than 15 million barrels, it becomes necessary for Nigeria to end all cases of fraud. He said in line with Tinubu’s appeal to Nigerians, the country must begin to consume what it produces and not the other way round.
