Senate President Godswill Akpabio has accused the suspended senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of distorting facts when she took her case to the United Nations Parliament.
Akpabio said the suspended lawmaker tried to embarrass Nigeria adding that the narratives she gave the international community was completely out of touch with what really happened.
Akpabio stated this on Thursday while appreciating members of the senate who had earlier passed a vote of confidence on his leadership.
He was not on seat when the vote of confidence was passed.
In his remark on Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claim at the UN, Akpabio held that her narrative was totally different from what occurred at the Senate.
“We are united in purpose, and we want the public to know that whatever decision we arrive here is unanimous. I recall the last decision we took which concerned one of our sisters here, distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
“I’m also aware that when she left the chambers, she went to Berekete Radio, and she went to Arise television and distorted the facts.
“I’m aware further that she has now internationalize the matter by attempting to embarrass the Federal Republic of Nigeria by going to give a narrative at the IPU UN event that was totally different from what occurred in the Senate.” the Senate President said.
Akpabio, however, commended the Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Rep. Kafilat Ogbara, for cautioning the International Press against vilifying Nigeria with Natasha’s false narratives.
“Then I want to thank our right honourable member Kafilat Ogbara who had to give a Press Conference in New York to caution the International Press not to vilify Nigeria but to note that the fact presented by her were totally out of tune with what occurred, and we have our own internal mechanisms of resolving issues in Nigeria.” He added.
NPO earlier reported that Ogbara had in a Press Conference held in New York, United State, presented the Senate’s response to the claims.
