The Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal has on Wednesday morning recorded large crowd ahead of its verdict on petition filed against the state governor, Monday Okpebholo, by the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
NPO Reported that the PDP and Ighodalo had challenged the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare Sen. Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the poll.
They alleged that the election, held on the 21st of September 2024, was marred by irregularities.
The three-man tribunal, led by Wilfred Kpochi, initially had their sittings at Edo State High Court.
Constant outbreak of clashes between supporters of the parties often disrupt the tribunal’s session.
Following the gun shot incident around the court’s premises on the 15th of January, the tribunal was transferred to Abuja.
On the 6th of February, INEC withdrew from the case after its representative failed to appear before the tribunal.
The PDP and Ighodalo, however, maintained their stance on the petition despite tension.
