Socio-Economic Right and Accountability Project (SERAP) group has rejected the N5.5 billion defamation lawsuit filed against it by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Reacting to the lawsuit in a post on their X handle, SERAP labelled it as baseless while maintaining that operatives of the agency invaded its Abuja office.
However, the DSS had denied the invasion claim, leading to its filing of the defamation suit against SERAP.
Meanwhile, the human rights group expressed readiness to meet the DSS in court.
“We reject the baseless defamation lawsuit brought against us by the DSS, following the invasion of our Abuja office.
“We’re talking to our lawyers and will be filing our counter-claims. We’ll see in court to stop this intimidation and attack on the rights of Nigerians.” SERAP wrote.
Recall that NPO earlier reported the lawsuit filed by the DSS alleging that SERAP’s invasion claim had negatively affected the agency’s reputation.
