The Ebute Metta Magistrate Court has remanded notorious hoodlum and National Union of Road Transport Workers’ (NURTW) chieftain, Shamusideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shamelon, over alleged murder and assault.
NPO earlier Reported that Oladiti was arraigned before the court by the Lagos State Police Command.
His arraignment after days of the being arrested over the death of a tricycle passenger simply identified as Rahmon had attracted scores of protesters at the court’s premises in demand for justice.
Speaking to newsmen after the hearing, John Uthman, the legal counsel representing the family of the deceased disclosed that Oladiti has been remanded for a period of 30 days following the establishment of prima facie case against the defendant.
He disclosed that the defendant pleaded not guilty of the offense with the court denying bail.
The case was adjourned till the 28th of October 2025, pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
“The defendant of course pleaded not guilty. His lawyer applied for a bail but the court requested for a case file.
“Having reviewed the case file the court found that a prima facie case has been established against the defendant. And in line with the ECJL, the court remanded him for a period of 30 days.
“The next court date will be on the 28th of October 2025 while we await the DPP’s advice.
“If the DPP’s advice comes before the 28th of October, of course he will be arraigned before a High Court.
“If the advice does not come before 28th of October, he will be brought back here for a possible extension of the remand.” Uthman said.
Also addressing newsmen was the police prosecutor, Anthony Iyeye, who labelled the case a capital offence.
He disclosed that Oladiti’s case file has been transferred to the DPP.
“The case is a capital offence which we have done the arraignment. Since he cannot take plea, the file is to be duplicated and sent to the DPP for legal advice.” Iyeye said.
