Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is set to appear in court today following his detention at the holding facilities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja on Tuesday.
NPO reported that Bello, who was declared wanted by the anti-graft agency in April over an alleged N110bn fraud, presented himself at the EFCC headquarters yesterday.
The anti-graft agency finally detained him ahead of his re-arraignment slated for today.
Since filing the charges against the former Kogi governor, the commission has not been able to bring him to court for arraignment.
The embattled former Kogi governor would, however, cause stir with his first appearance at the EFCC Abuja headquarters in September.
NPO reported that the Commission had told him to leave as he came in company of incumbent Kogi governor, Usman Ododo.
Hours after his departure, EFCC reportedly raided his Abuja residence while declaring him wanted.
The commission had initially filed 19 charges against Bello, along with his nephews Ali Bello, Dauda Suliman and Abdulsalam Hudu for money laundering offences amounting to over N80bn.
It was reduced to 16 charges in September 25 with the total sum of N110 billion allegedly laundered by the suspects.
Prior to his detention yesterday, efforts by the EFCC to arraign Yahaya Bello had proved abortive as he failed to appear before the court.
After series of adjournment, the Federal High Court, Abuja, had ruled to arraign him in absentia if he again fails to appear today.
