Calls for Release of Commission’s Forensic Report
- Safiu Kehinde
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused Judith Amaechi, wife of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, of receiving N4 billion monthly from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to train women in the region.
Wike made the disclosure while speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme on Friday.
This is coming in reaction to Amaechi’s appearance at the same same programme on Thursday where he claimed that his wife is an industrialist.
Wike refuted the claim as he recalled the NDDC forensic audit initiated by the Federal Government in 2021 to investigated the financial transactions and project implementations of the commission from its inception in 2001 to August 2019
The FCT Minister alleged that Judith through company received N4 billion monthly under the guise of training Niger Delta women.
He accused the former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, of burying the report of the probe to protect those who might be indicted in any form of fraud.
“First of all, Amaechi’s wife was not an industrialist at the time; the best I know,” Wike said.
“And that’s why I’ve called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release the forensic audit of the NDDC.
“Through Amaechi’s wife’s company, N4 billion was being received every month to train Niger Delta women. That’s N48 billion a year. The forensic report is there.
“Who killed it? It was Malami (former AGF)—he killed that document to protect those concerned. One of the people who are talking about coalition.” Wike said.
The FCT Minister urged President Bola Tinubu to release the forensic report of the probe while vowing to resign if his allegations were not contained in the report.
“Mr President should help Nigerians. This is what I’ve always said: please, release the forensic audit of the NDDC.
“N4 billion a month to train Niger Delta women! I have said, ‘Let Mr. President, please, do us a favour and release that document.’
“Just release the document. That’s how his wife became an industrialist; N4 billion every month to train Niger Delta women.
“Let them release the document, if what I am saying is not in the document, I will resign as the minister of FCT. I don’t worship the office,” he said.
The minister also questioned the qualifications of Amaechi, claiming that the former Minister of Transport failed to graduate from the Rivers State University.
“Amaechi went to Rivers State University, but he couldn’t pass,” he said.
