The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako has resigned his appointment.
His resignation came a day after another building collapse in the Lekki area of Lagos.
At least, two persons have been confirmed dead after another seven stoey building came down on Sunday trapping many people.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho made the announcement in a statement on Monday.
The statement reads, “The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has accepted the resignation of the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako.
“This is a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry and its agencies.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu thanks the Commissioner for his services to the State and wishes him success in his future endeavours.
“The Governor warns all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are,” the statement added.
The Governor’s response to the resignation notice is an indication of the issues bordering on building collapse in the state.
He has by his statement added that the ministry is to undergo restructuring obviously in view of the cases of breaches under the supervision of the ministry.
CASES OF BUILDING COLLAPSE IN LAGOS IN RECENT TIMES:
Cases of building collapse in the state has reached an alarming stage. Last year, a 21 storey building came down on Gerald Road, Ikoyi killing about 43 people.
The state building control agency had warned and sealed off the building having been marked to have exceeded the approved number of levels granted by the building agency.
