Amnesty International has condemned the attack on Amagu village in Ebonyi state by suspected herdsmen which claimed the lives of over 16 villagers.
The tragic incident, which occurred at the village located at the Ishielu local government area of the state on Sunday, has further raised call concern on level of insecurity in Nigeria.
Reacting in a post on its X handle on Tuesday, Amnesty International called for immediate investigation into the attack.
“Amnesty International strongly condemns the killing of at least 16 people in a herders attack on Amagu village in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi state on Sunday.
*Apart from killing residents the suspected herders also burnt down houses and other properties.
“The affected community has been deserted because of fear of another attack. The Nigerian authorities must immediately initiate independent, effective and impartial investigations of this attack.” Amnesty wrote.
