Anthony Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, has revealed that the former World Heavyweight Boxing champion is considering retirement following the tragic road crash that killed two of his friends.
NPO Reported that the Nigerian-British was on the 29th of December, 2025, involved in a tragic lone accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to eyewitnesses, Joshua’s vehicle, a Lexus Jeep with the registration number KRD 850 HN, collided with a stationary truck along the highway.
While the boxer had narrowly escaped with minor injuries, the fatal collision unfortunately claimed the lives of his fitness coach, Sina Ghami, and his persona trainer, Lateef Ayodele, who both died on the spot.
The boxer was rushed to a hospital while the bodies of his deceased friends were deposited at a funeral home before their repatriation.
Joshua who was discharged on New Year Eve returned to the UK last week and attended the funeral prayer held for the deceased on Sunday.
With the incident reported to have taken emotional toll on the boxer, his Uncle revealed his plan to retire from boxing.
According to reports, Adedamola, in an interview with the Punch claimed that Joshua has retired from boxing to the relieve of the family.
“The main thing is that he has retired from boxing. That is something that brings us peace. Every time he fought, we were emotionally overwhelmed.
“Whenever he was knocked down, it felt like our hearts were coming out of our chests. The emotional toll of watching him fight was too much for us.
“Now that he has chosen to step away while the applause is still loud, we are happy for him.” He reportedly said.
However, neither the boxer nor his management has confirmed the development as at the time of filing this report.
