Nigerian-born British boxer, Anthony Joshua, has been discharged from the hospital after surviving the fatal car crash that killed two of his associates along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
NPO Reported that the former World Heavyweight champion had narrowly escaped death on Monday after his Lexus Jeep rammed into a stationary truck parked before Danco Filling Station, near the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound axis., Ogun State.
While the boxer was rescued with minor injuries, the tragic incident claimed the lives of his coach, Sina Ghami, and his personal trainer, Lateef Ayodele.
Joshua was immediately rushed to the hospital with the Ogun State Government taking up his medical expenses in collaboration with the Lagos State Government.
The state governments on Wednesday announced the discharge of the boxer from the hospital.
This was made known in a joint statement issued by the Lagos state Commissioner for Information and Stratgey, Gbenga Omotosho, and the Special Advisers to the Ogun State Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade.
According to the statement, Joshua was discharged on Wednesday afternoon after being declared clinically fit to return home.
The boxer however still remains emotionally weighed over the loss of his friends.
He reportedly visited the funeral home where the remains of the deceased were being prepared for repatriation to their countries for befitting burial.
The Lagos and Ogun state governments both condoled Joshua while expressing their gratitude to members of the public for their concern as well as President Bola Tinubu.
The statement read; “The governments of Lagos and Ogun states once again, commiserate with the families of the two young men Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami who tragically and unfortunately lost their lives in the road accident involving Anthony Joshua on the 29th December 2025.
“We pray the Almighty grant the repose of their souls whilst granting their families and loved ones the fortitude to bear this very sad and painful loss .
“Anthony Joshua was discharged from hospital late this afternoon though heavy hearted and full of emotions over the loss of his two close friends he was deemed clinical fit to recuperate from home.
“Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two deported friends as they were being prepared for repatriation scheduled for later this evening.
“Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu deeply appreciate the public concern and show of love and affection over this very sad and unfortunate incident.
“They also appreciate Mr President. His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for all fatherly support he gave throughout the process.
“We also want to appreciate the team of doctors and medical personnel tag the Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi that attended to Anthony and those that sustained injuries.
“The quality of care and professionalism is truly commendable.”
