The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has broken silence over alleged APC membership claim of its National Commissioner in charge of Edo election, Prof. Rhoda Gumus.
Reacting to the allegation, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, debunked the claim which he described as pack of lies and attempt to impugn Gumus of her reputation.
Speaking to the NPO Reports, Oyekanmi recalled that the false narrative first resurfaced when Gumus was nominated as National Commissioner.
It would, however be discovered as untrue with the Commissioner threatening to sue the perpetrators of the fake news then.
“Prof. Rhoda Gumus is not a member of any political party. This false narrative was first peddled when she was nominated as National Commissioner, but it was discovered to be untrue.
“At that time, she threatened to sue the elements behind the fake news and they quickly withdrew and disappeared into thin air.
“These elements are at it again. They have exhumed the same pack of lies, all aimed at impugning her hard earned reputation.
Since her swearing in as National Commissioner, Prof Gumus has performed her duties in line with mission and vision of the Independent National Electoral Commission.” Oyekanmi said.
Meanwhile he expressed confidence in the National Commissioner ability to uphold the INEC principles at the Edo election as he urged Nigerians to ignore the false claims.
“We have absolute confidence in her ability to uphold the Commission’s core principles of integrity, transparency, credibility and fairness as we go into the Edo State Governorship election.
“Nigerians should please ignore the shenanigans of purely evil people.” He added
