As Mammoth Crowd of Supporters Witness Grand Finale Campaign
- Safiu Kehinde
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Amb Umaru Damagun, has described as a curse, the broom which is the symbol of the ruling All Progressive Congress.
Damagun said this while receiving defected members of the APC at the grand finale of the PDP’s governorship campaign for Agboola Ajayi at Akure on Thursday.
He described the PDP as the light which the defected members have moved into as against APC’s ‘dead broom’.
“Everywhere we go, we conquer. Already, people have seen the light. We have leaders here that have been sweeping the street without seeing one grain. They keep sweeping with dead broom. The dead broom is a curse.” Damagun said.
He, however urged Ondo people to come out en masse and vote for Agboola as he recalled the achievement of past PDP governors in the state- especially the late Olusegun Agagu
“When PDP was ruling Ondo state, you have seen roads; you have seen schools; you have seen medical facilities all over. May the soul of late Segun Agagu rest in peace.” He said.
The PDP Chairman trolled an undisclosed politician who he claimed disappeared after leaving the party.
“Someone has come, joined the PDP, did the small thing he wanted to do. Unfortunately, he was possessed and went the wrong way.
“Since he went that way, we have never seen him. Before we used him very tall, now he is very small.” He said.
Damagun, however charged Ondo people not to be intimidated.
He urged them to wait and ensure that their votes are counted.
Also addressing the mammoth crowd of supporters was Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde who urged the crowd not to indulge in violence during the election.
He admonished those seeking political appointment to start preparing as he assured them of Agboola’s victory.
“On Saturday, ensure you cast your vote and get your returns. After that, leave the rest to us and God.” Makinde said.
In same vein, the chairman of the PDP’s Governor’s forum, Bala Mohammed, charged the people to vote out the APC.
“Don’t allow them because they will forever put you in poverty. This is a state of knowledge, a state of progression. You don’t allow somebody who is an illiterate to lead you.” the Bauchi governor said.
Meanwhile the rally also saw Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, entertained the PDP supporters while jeering them to cast their vote for Agboola on Saturday.
On their part, Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, and his Plateau state counterpart, Caleb Muftwang, lent their voices in support of the Ondo PDP candidate Agboola Ajayi.
The PDP final campaign also had in attendance one of the party’s chieftain in Ondo state, Oyewole Fasawe.
While endorsing Agboola, Fasawe recalled how the PDP was brought to Ondo state in 1999 and the emergence of the late Agagu as the state’s governor in 2003.
“In 1999 when we brought PDP here, we kept the struggle going until 2003 when we overcame with the late Olusegun Agagu’s emergence as Ondo state governor.
“Nobody has been able to repeat the works that Agagu did in Ondo.
“We also brought Mimiko and his achievements are also yet to be repeated by anyone.
“So I will implore you that this hunger and suffering is too much. It is only Agboola Ajayi that can save us.” Fasawe said.
