A faction of the All Progressive Congress in Osun state, has said it expelled some chieftains of the party believed to be loyal to former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
Tajudeen Lawal, chairman of the faction that is loyal to former Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola said former Secretary to the state government Moshood Adeoti and 24 other party leaders have been expelled.
The development comes days after Aregbesola visited Osun and launched the Omoluabi Caucus of the party.
He said the move was to save the APC in the state from total death.
NPO Reports that Oyetola was defeated in the governorship election in 2018 giving way to the emergence of current Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Oyetola faction has accused the Aregbesola faction of causing the defeat.
In a statement on Thursday, Tajudeen Lawal, chairman of the party in Osun, said Adeoti and 25 other people were accused of creating a faction of the APC in the state.
“This disciplinary measure came in response to the allegations of misconduct bordering on factionalization of the party and creating a parallel party organ,” Lawal said.
“The disciplinary committee undertook a thorough and impartial review of the allegations and the findings were carefully deliberated upon by the state executive committee.”
