The Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government are singing different songs over the much talked about negotiation meeting said to have been slated for today.
While the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige told a gathering last Friday that a meeting was slated for today, the ASUU leadership said there is no invitation to that effect.
Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, said “We have not received any notice of meeting from them. They didn’t call us. We are not begging them to meet with us and we will not go to them if they do not invite us. It is part of his (Ngige’s) political campaign, we didn’t receive any invite.”

When asked what would be ASUU’s decision at the end of its two-month rollover strike which ends on Friday, Osodeke said, “My people will decide.”
He added, “No meeting, if we do not hear from them, our National Executive Council will meet at the expiration of this week.”
The two months rollover strike ends on Friday, making it the third month that university students across the country had been forced to stay at home.
Both Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajuiba and Ngige have been accused of abandoning their responsibilities to pursue political ambitions.
