Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has deleted his tweet where he condemned the killing of a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Deborah Emmanuel.
Atiku had taken to his twitter handle to call for justice after the student was stoned to death and her remains burnt to ashes on the school campus.
”There can not be a justification for such gruesome murder. Deborah Yakubu was murdered, and all those behind her death must be brought to justice. My condolences to her family and friends,” he had tweeted late Thursday.
However, twitter users have observed that hours after the tweet was posted the former vice president and a presidential aspirant has taken down the tweet.
NPO Reports learnt that the decision may have been informed by the series of threats to him by some elements who believed that the treatment meted to the late Deborah was just as according to Islamic law.
However, after deleting the tweet his handle explained in Hausa language that his attention had been called to a post on the killing of Deborah saying he never approved such condemnations.
“This evening, I received information that a post was made that doesn’t agree with my orders. I use this to announce that any post that any post without AA is not from me. May God protect. AA”
Many commentators online have condemned Atiku’s decision to remove the post.
A twitter user Kelvin Odanz with the handle @MrOdanz wrote, “The handler of that Atiku’s account posted that first tweet condemning the murder. I am guessing Atiku himself got wind of it and asked that it be deleted. Most likely not the end of the saga. Waiting for further reaction from him. But this is already a huge embarrassment.”
A public affairs commentator, Dipo Awojide wrote, “Such a good tweet from Atiku Abubakar condemning the brutal murder of Deborah Yakubu. It’s really embarrassing it was deleted, especially after his silence about the Pantami saga.”
Many have said that the action of the PDP presidential aspirant will hunt him.
