Less than nine days to the Bayelsa governorship election, a fresh suit seeking the disqualification of Gov. Douye Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has commenced at a Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja. The suit, presently before Justice Emeka Nwite, sought an order of mandatory injunction, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the names of Diri and Ewhrudjakpo as PDP’s candidates in the Nov. 11 poll. The father of Charles Erukaa, a popular television presenter and on-air-personality with Channels TV has reportedly died in the den of kidnappers in Benue State. He was aged 80. Charles’ father, Washima Erukaa was also the former Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. He was kidnapped on Saturday, 23 September, 2023 in Zaki Biam, headquarters of the local government but died after over one month with his abductors. Some natives of oil-bearing communities in Niger Delta and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have dragged the National Assembly to Court over Section 257 of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). Also joined in the suit is the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Juatice.
