Yohanna’s oath of allegiance followed his declaration as winner of the Feb. 26 senatorial election by an Appeal Court. The Clerk of the Senate, Mr Chinedu Akubueze, administered the oath and allegiance on Yohanna at plenary on Wednesday. The Supreme Court has said it will deliver judgment on the appeals by the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party, Peter Obi, respectively on Thursday. Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir has joined tens of thousands of Icelandic women who have decided to skip work on Tuesday in a show of solidarity against gender pay gap and gender-based violence in Iceland. In line with this, a “kvennafri,” or women’s day off, has been declared. Particularly hard hit are industries like healthcare and education, where women make up the bulk of the workforce.
