The Police Command in Cross River said a total of 81 suspects were charged to various courts between September and October 2023. The Command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, made the disclosure in Calabar on Tuesday during the parade of 15 suspects arrested across the state within the period under review. She said that the suspects are being tried for various crimes ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, stealing, malicious damage and assault. Twenty-five soldiers and an officer are currently facing court martial trial in 82 Division of the Nigerian Army for various offences. An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday sentenced the embattled Medical Director of Optical Cancer Care Foundation, Dr Olufemi Olaleye, to double life imprisonment for defiling 16-year-old wife’s niece. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Justice Rahman Oshodi held that the prosecution proved the two-count of defilement and sexual assault by penetration against Olaleye. Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) Special Military Task Force maintaining peace in Plateau and parts of Bauchi and Kaduna States, have neutralised four suspected bandits. Capt. An off-duty pilot has been charged with 83 counts of attempted murder, after he allegedly tried to crash a passenger jet during a flight on Sunday night. The suspect was sitting in the cockpit of an Alaska Airlines flight behind the captain and the first-officer, according to an airline statement. A police booking document named the suspect as Joseph David Emerson, 44. The flight was on its way from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco, California, with 80 passengers aboard.
