A New York jury has decided Donald Trump should pay $83.3m (£65m) for defaming columnist E Jean Carroll in 2019 while he was US president. The penalty in the civil trial is made up of $18.3m for compensatory damages and $65m in punitive damages. Mr Trump was found in a previous civil case to have defamed Ms Carroll and sexually assaulted her in the 1990s. An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Friday sentenced a Lagos bishop, Oluwafeyiropo Daniels, to life imprisonment for raping his 23-year old assistant(name withheld). Justice Rahman Oshodi also sentenced the embattled bishop of “I Reign Christian Ministry” to three years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a member of his church, aged 19 years. An Abeokuta Magistrates Court on Friday, sentenced a teenager, Adeola Saheed, for attempting to rape a 35- year-old woman The defendant, 19, who resides at Brewery area in Abeokuta, is facing a three count charge of conspiracy, indecent assault and attempt to rape. The global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth is projected to slow from 2.7 per cent in 2023 to 2.4 per cent in the year, says the World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2024. The report, launched by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, said that global growth would improve moderately to 2.7 per cent in 2025, but would remain below the pre-pandemic trend growth rate of three per cent.
