According to the statement, the groundbreaking initiative was announced by the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, at a meeting with the Implementation Committee. Some protesters insisting that election cannot hold into the local government areas of Rivers state have gone to the streets of the state capital Port Harcourt. This was just as voters have come out in their large numbers forming long lines at polling centers. The court ruling which called for the suspension of the election and withdrawal of the Nigerian Police Force had stirred tension in Rivers.
