By Kamil Opeyemi The Bauchi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has affirmed the victory of Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 18th governorship election held in the state. The tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar. The three-man panel chaired by Justice P.T Kwahar held that there is no strong reason to nullify the election as the election was conducted in compliance with the law. The Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said in a statement in Abuja that the strike was executed while on armed reconnaissance mission in the area. Yusuf, who contested on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the poll in March. The police in Osun have called on iilegal gun owners to voluntarily surrender them at the nearest Divisional Police Headquarters. This is contained in a statement issued by SP Yemisi Opalola, Osun Police Spokesperson. Opalola explained that the move was in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokunb aimed at addressing proliferation of firearms. ”There is no punitive measures attached to the submission of the firearms.
