Tragedy struck residents of Kofar Waika by Masallacin Karmawi, Kano, when a four-year-old girl drowned inside a well. This is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi on Tuesday in Kano. Beer parlours in Kabba, Kogi, are to close shop at 7 p.m. henceforth. Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Council, Mr. Moses Olorunleke, gave the order on Monday in Kabba following a second suspected bomb blast in the area in 18 days. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called on African Governments to impose environmental tax levies on tobacco across the value and supply chains, including production, processing, distribution, sales, consumption and waste management. Dr Matshidiso Moeti, Regional Director for Africa, made the call on Monday in a message to commemorate the 2022 World No Tobacco Day which is always celebrated on 31 May every year. A new UK visa scheme that is designed to attract the “brightest and best” graduates from around the world does not include any African universities on its list of institutions where those degree-holders can come from. This has led to some complaints that African talent is being excluded – though Africans who have attended the listed universities will be able to apply.
