Dr. Dikko Radda, the immediate past Director General of SMEDAN, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket in Katsina State. Radda beat seven other aspirants at the party’s primary election in Katsina on Friday to clinch the ticket. Kano State Deputy Governor, Nasiru Gawuna has emerged governorship candidate of the All Progress Congress (APC) for 2023 general election in the state. Gawuna polled 2,289 votes to defeat his only opponent, Sha’aban Sharada, a member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, who scored 30 votes. Six soldiers and a veteran have been arrested on suspicion of drug, money-lending and money-laundering offences, the Ministry of Defence has said. The MoD said six Irish Guards troops and a Coldstream Guardsman veteran were arrested by the Royal Military Police as part of a “planned operation”. Eleven newborn babies have died in a fire at the maternity unit of a hospital in the western city of Tivaouane in Senegal. The husband of one of the teachers slain in Tuesday’s mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, has reportedly died of a heart attack. Joe Garcia was the husband of Irma Garcia, who taught for 23 years at Robb Elementary School. Mrs Garcia was one of two teachers killed by a teenage gunman in the shooting that left 21 people dead – including 19 children. The gunman who attacked a school in Texas on Tuesday was able to enter the building unobstructed, police say. Texas Ranger Victor Escalon said no armed guard challenged the teenage attacker and it is unclear if the school door was even locked. Mr Escalon defended the police response amid mounting criticism of an apparent delay in confronting the gunman. The Rivers chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gave its governorship ticket to Mr.Tony Cole in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
