The Naira exchanged at 419.33 to the dollar at the Investors and Exporters window on Wednesday, a 0.20 per cent depreciation, compared to 418.50 to the dollar on Tuesday. The open indicative rate closed at 418.38 to the dollar on Wednesday. An exchange rate of 444 to the dollar was the highest rate recorded within the day’s trading before it settled at N419.33. The Naira sold for as low as 410 to the dollar within the day’s trading. A total of 82.56 million dollars was traded in foreign exchange at the official Investors and Exporters window on Wednesday.
Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa has condemned the assassination of Mr. Sunday Frank-Oputu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his Yenagoa residence by gunmen. Police in Kaduna State have arrested two suspects and recovered an AK47 rifle with 34 rounds of live 7.62x39mm ammunition. Police spokesman, ASP Mohammed Jalige stated in Kaduna on Wednesday that the arrest was made on Sunday. It followed the receipt of credible information on the movement of arms at Iyatawa Village Road in Giwa Local Government Area. The Government of Zamfara State on Wednesday dethroned the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and that of Dansadau, Alhaji Hussaini Umar, over alleged involvement in banditry.
