A political pressure group, Citizens Network for Peace and Development in Nigeria (CNPD), has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt former president Goodluck Jonathan, as the party’s candidate for the 2023 presidential election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says fresh registration in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) has hit 8,564,512, as at 7am, Monday April 25. The commission disclosed this in an CVR Update on quarter four, week two, released in Abuja on Monday night. The commission also disclosed that 5,111,899 registrants had completed their registrations with 2,228,913 via online and 2,882,986 through physical registration. According to the commission, the gender breakdown of the registrants that have completed their registration comprised 2,537,932 male and 2,573,967 female. The Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra, Mr. Arinzechukwu Awogu, has said that no herdsman was kidnapped nor cows rustled in the area. Awogu stated this in a statement issued in Awka and made available to newsmen on Monday. He described as misleading, a report credited to the South-East Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, that 10 herdsmen were kidnapped and 300 cows rustled. The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Monday, strongly condemned the widespread sexual violence, as well as killings, including beheadings, burning alive of civilians, and attacks on aid workers in Leer County. UNMISS, in a statement, said these were among the human rights violations documented during a surge in violence carried out by armed youth from Koch and Mayendit counties between February and April 2022.
