Another chairmanship aspirant in the All Progressive Congress, dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has pulled out of the race four days to the national convention of the party. Announcing his withdrawal on Monday, in Gusau, he said he withdrew from the race to respect the party and the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s (retd.) decision to zone the position to the North Central. The Lagos State Government says it has said disciplined six officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) over misconduct while performing their official duties. The Assistant Director, Public Affairs of LASTMA, Mr. Olumide Filade, confirmed this in a statement on Monday in Lagos. According to Filade, LASTMA has sanctioned six officers after facing disciplinary committee from September to December 2021. The LASTMA management explained that two of the officers had their appointments terminated, while four suffered demotion along with reprimand for their various misdemeanours. Some indigenes of Ile-Ife in Osun, on Monday invaded the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) campus, armed with charms and other fetish objects, protesting against the appointment of non indigene as the institution’s Vice-Chancellor. The protesting Ife indigenes closed the university’s two major gates as early as 6.00 a.m, thereby preventing vehicular movement from coming into the campus, while those inside the campus were disallowed from leaving. The Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 says it is currently reviewing the travel advisory and public health safety measures. The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC),Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, made the clarification on Monday in Abuja during the PSC National Briefing. “We acknowledge the concerns of Nigerians regarding the Nigeria International Travel Portal (NITP), COVID-19 testing pre-and post-arrival in Nigeria. “We would like to clarify some of these concerns. ”the current travel advisory and public health safety measures were under review by the PSC and will be updated shortly,” he said. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has projected that the Nigerian economy will grow by 3.24 per cent in 2022, in spite of rising inflationary challenges occasioned by global socio-economic events. Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the CBN Governor, made this known on Monday while presenting a communique from the apex bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting. Two men have been arrested by the Police Command in Anambra for allegedly defiling four minors in Umudim, Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government Area, of the state. The suspects, Peter Ezeala, 61 and Elochukwu Igwilo, 27, were said to be neighbours with the parents of the victims of sexual violation. DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra, who disclosed this in Awka said the children were aged 10, seven, five and 11 months respectively.
