For defecting to the All Progressive Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party, the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday removed 20 members of the Cross River State House of Assembly from their seats. Justice Taiwo Taiwo while delivering his judgment, said the lawmakers needed to vacate their seats since they had abandoned the party which brought them to power. Russian troops have dispersed a demonstration in the occupied southern city of Kherson by firing on protesters, media reports say. Video footage has appeared on social media showing the protesters on a city square, with people running and the sound of automatic gunfire. Some reports say stun grenades were also used. Several people are reported to have been injured. The city has seen regular protests against the occupation since Russian troops took over at the beginning of March. One of recently evacuated Nigerian students in Ukraine, Uzaifa Halilu Modachi has died in Sokoto. Modachi died two weeks after returning to Nigeria from the war-torn European country. Modachi was said to be in the third year of his studies in Ukraine when Russian troops invaded the country. National Human Rights Commission has expressed deep concern over the incessant strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Chief Tony Ojukwu, SAN, made this a statement in Abuja. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano’s arrest was not political, adding that he has been granted bail. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said it had registered 1.5 million candidates, as it reiterated its stand to close its 2022 registration exercise on Saturday, March 26.
