The money laundering trial of a former Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, was on Thursday stalled due to its non-appearance in the cause list. Ikuforiji is facing a N338.8 million money laundering charge before a Federal High in Lagos State. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had dragged the former speaker to court alongside his former Personal Assistant, Oyebode Atoyebi, on 54 count charges. Around 1.95 million people have crossed into Poland from Ukraine since Russia launched its attack on the country, the Polish Border Guard tweeted on Thursday. This includes 60,000 arrivals who were processed on Wednesday, a decline of 11 per cent compared to the previous day. There are no official figures at present on how many refugees have stayed in Poland and how many have travelled on to other EU member states. The police in Ibadan on Thursday arraigned one 19-year-old Opeyemi Tiamiyu for alleged wandering and unlawful possession of hemp. Tiamiyu, whose residential address was not provided, appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court. The police charged him with wandering, unlawful possession of cannabis sativa (hemp) and conduct likely to cause breach of peace. He, however, pleaded not guilty. Yoruba Nation self-determination activists, led by Prof Banji Akintoye, have filed two suits before the Federal High Courts in Ado-Ekiti and Osogbo praying for declarations that the 1999 Constitution is fraudulent, illegal and invalid, because no referendum was conducted before it was enacted. The activists, including Prof Wale Adeniran, also prayed the courts to declare that the forthcoming Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, which are scheduled to be conducted in June and July by the Independent National Electoral Commission, cannot be validly held under the said illegal and invalid constitution.
