Ottawa police have said “volatile” and “determined” demonstrators remain in Canada’s capital after nearly two weeks of a trucker-led anti-vaccine mandate protest. Ottawa is under a state of emergency as police try to contain the protest. Up to a quarter of so-called Freedom Convoy vehicles have children in them who could be at risk during operations, authorities said on Tuesday. Nurses under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) in Lagos State has suspended its three-day warning strike. The State Chairman, Mr. Olurotimi Awojide, disclosed this at an emergency Congress Meeting of the association on Monday in Lagos. Awojide said that the association suspended its strike to enable the government fulfill its promises after meeting with Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and key officers of the state. UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has strongly condemned the attacks perpetrated over the weekend in Nigeria’s Zamfara State in which scores of civilians were killed. UN chief, who spoke through his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. According to reports, an estimated 200 people or more were killed in villages in the Northwestern Nigerian state of Zamfara during deadly reprisals by armed bandits following military air strikes on their hideouts. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arrested Ismailia Mustapha, also known as Mompha, a suspected online fraudster. Mompha was arrested on Monday for “laundering monies” gained via illegal operations and the retention of allegedly criminal gains. Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC’s Head of Media, announced the announcement in a statement. Mompha and his business, Ismalob Global Investment Limited, are already on trial. They face a 22-count amended allegation involving N32.9 billion in computer fraud and money laundering. Justice Jane Inyang of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano on Monday, sentenced a 42-year-old man, Muhyiddeen Jamilu, to 15 years imprisonment for trafficking three men to Libya. Justice Inyang convicted Jamilu, who resides in Brigade Gama ‘B’ area of Kano, after he pleaded guilty to the three-counts preferred against him by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
