The International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria has condemned the order by the Zamfara State government for the closure of some media organisations operating in the state. Gov. Bello Matawalle, on Saturday ordered the immediate shutdown of some public and private media organisations, for allegedly allegedly violating government order and journalism practice. The affected media houses included the federal government owned Radio Nigeria’s Pride FM in Gusau, and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Gusau. Nine Ghanaians have reportedly sent to jail by the federal high court sitting in Lagos for an attempt to smuggle cannabis into the country. They were said to have been sentenced to eight years imprisonment each Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson of the anti-narcotic agency, NDLEA disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday. The convicts according to the spokesman are identified as Victor Wuddah, Freeman Gazul, Adotete Joseph, Sottie Moses, Sottie Stephen, Christian Tette, Kanu Okonipa, Daniel Koyepti. and Kanu Natte. Not fewer than Eleven(11) suspected cultists have been arrested by the men of Ogun State Police Command in Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state. The suspects, said to be members of a dreaded cult group, were apprehended on October 11.
