The Academic Staff Union of Universities has (ASUU) has suspended its eight months old strike. This is just after the union concluded it’s meeting with the National Executive Committee (NEC), which commenced in the late hours of Thursday and extended till the early hours of Friday at the ASUU Secretariat in Abuja. The Federal Government on Thursday countered the Appeal Court’s judgement setting free leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu saying the activist is not free from other charges. The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has increased the number of recently-appointed special assistants from 28,000 to 50,000. Kelvin Ebiri, his media aide disclosed this in a statement on Thursday saying that, the appointment takes immediate effect. Wike had, on Wednesday, approved the appointment of 28,000 persons as special assistants for polling units in the state. The governor also approved the sum of N1 billion as an emergency relief measure to support flood victims in the state. Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola has rekindled the hope of his supporters on the Tribunal sitting in Osogbo over the matters arisen from the July 16 governorship election in the state. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had on 17th of July declared Senator Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the election having certified the requirements.
